Because money isn't just maths. It's behaviour.
Sometimes the things we do with money don't make much sense. Even to us.
You might earn more than you ever imagined and still feel like it's not enough.
Have thousands sitting in savings but feel physically uncomfortable at the thought of spending any of it.
Keep a credit card balance you're perfectly capable of clearing because watching your savings disappear feels worse than paying the interest.
Say yes to work you don't want because turning money down feels irresponsible and what if nothing new comes in.
Or find yourself spending money on things you don't particularly need because, for a little while, they make you feel good about yourself.
And then there's what money says about you.
That you're successful . Or you're not.
That you're responsible. Or you've failed.
That you're safe. Or everything could disappear tomorrow.
That you deserve what you have. Or you should be grateful and stop wanting more.
But where did all those ideas come from?
Maybe you grew up hearing that money doesn’t grow on trees.
Maybe you watched someone you love lose everything.
Maybe you were praised for being sensible with money, or criticised for wanting things.
Maybe you learned that working hard was the only respectable way to earn.
Or perhaps you’ve had financial experiences as an adult that have left you questioning your own judgement.
Somewhere along the way, those experiences may have become beliefs.
And those beliefs can become the invisible rules behind your financial decisions.
Rules about what you can earn.
What you’re allowed to spend.
How much you need to feel safe.
What you deserve to have.
And what having more money might mean for your life and relationships.
The interesting thing is, you might not even realise you’re following them.
You just keep making decisions that feel sensible, necessary or safe.
Even when those decisions aren’t getting you where you want to be.
And that’s what we’re going to explore in The Money Shift Challenge.
Not just what you’re doing with money.
Why you’re doing it.
Because once you understand what’s driving your financial decisions, you can start questioning the beliefs that no longer serve you, changing the behaviours that follow and making different choices.
Not everyone needs to work on the same thing.
So during the Challenge, you’ll choose the area that would make the biggest difference to your financial life right now.
I want to make more
Look at income, earning and the opportunities you’re currently overlooking, avoiding or underusing.
I want to spend better
Understand where your money is going and make spending decisions that better reflect what actually matters to you.
I want to keep more
Start creating the habit and system that allows money to stay with you rather than simply passing through.
I want to reduce what I owe
Take a clear, shame-free first step towards reducing debt or financial obligations.
Understanding your money patterns is one thing.
Discovering that you can actually change them is something else entirely.
Over the years, I've helped hundreds of people challenge long-held beliefs, make different financial decisions and create changes that have affected far more than their bank balances.
Here are some of their experiences.
"One of the best things Laura taught me, at a time when I was riddled with anxiety and stress and didn't know what to do or where to go, was don't panic or stress about money or where it's coming from...it took a while to get to that point but when I did, everything flowed and it felt easy."
- KV
"What Laura did for me was to make me see who I am. What I can do. To know I am enough and more. To know that I can do whatever I want...the financial results (doubling turnover and profit) are just a side effect of that."
- LM
"I've charged them all over my double my normal rate and none have batted an eyelid...so far I'm managing to cram this all in to two (very long) days a week."
- NC
Testimonials are from Laura's previous mentoring and programmes not The Money Shift Challenge, which is new. Individual results vary.
Get REAL
Where are you actually starting?
No shame. No judgement. No financial fantasy.
You’ll take a quick snapshot of where you are now and identify the area where one shift could make the biggest difference.
Understand your starting point and choose the money track that matters most to you.
See the pattern
Why do you keep doing that with money?
We’ll look underneath the numbers at the habits, beliefs and behaviours quietly influencing your financial decisions.
Identify one money pattern you’re ready to interrupt.
Make the shift
Do something differently.
This is where insight becomes action.
You’ll complete a practical challenge based on your chosen REAL track.
Small enough to do today.
Meaningful enough to matter.
Take one practical action that moves you towards a stronger financial position.
Make it easier
Stop relying on willpower.
Good intentions aren’t a financial system.
You’ll put one simple structure in place that makes the behaviour you want easier to repeat.
Build one financial system that keeps working after the Challenge ends.
Choose what money is for
Bring everything together. Look back at what you've discovered, the actions you've taken and the changes you've already started making. Then connect your progress to what you actually want money to make possible in your life.
Finish with documented evidence of your first money shift and a clear 30-day plan to build on it.
Five days. Four money tracks. One very different way of looking at your financial life.
And no, you don’t need to spend hours staring at spreadsheets.
1. Choose your money track
When you join, you’ll choose the area of your financial life you’d most like to work on:
RECEIVE: Earn more money.
EXPEND: Spend more intentionally.
ACCUMULATE: Save and keep more.
LET GO: Reduce debt.
You can explore more than one, but I’d recommend starting with the area that would make the biggest difference to you right now.
2. Get your daily activities
From Monday 23 to Friday 27 November, I’ll guide you through five days of insights, reflection and practical action.
You’ll have a workbook for your chosen track, with exercises designed to help you understand what’s influencing your financial decisions and start doing things differently.
3. Join me live
Each day, I’ll be going live in our private Facebook group to explore the day’s topic, share examples and help you get more from the activities.
It’s also where you can ask questions, share your discoveries and connect with other people doing the challenge.
4. Finish with your own Money Shift
By Friday, you’ll have explored a money pattern, taken practical action and identified what you want to change next.
You’ll bring everything together in your workbook and create a clear plan for building on your progress over the following 30 days.
And the best bit?
You don’t need to share your income, savings, debts or bank balance with anyone.
Your financial information stays yours.
Ready to discover what’s really driving your financial decisions?
You could finish Friday knowing something about your financial behaviour that you didn’t understand on Monday.
You could have made more money. Spent less of it. Moved money into savings. Paid something off. Put a system in place. Made a decision you’ve been avoiding.
Or finally understood why knowing what you should do has never quite been enough to make you do it.
And perhaps most importantly... You could start trusting yourself with money again.
→ You earn good money but can’t quite understand why you feel like you should be further ahead
→ You have enough coming in to make financial decisions, but know those decisions could be better.
→ You’ve repeatedly promised yourself you’ll “sort your money out” but keep on ignoring it...like those orchids you keep meaning to water.
→ You want more savings, less debt, better spending or greater income.
→ You’re curious about the psychology underneath your money behaviour.
→ And you want financial freedom because of what it would let you do with your life.
If you’re currently unable to cover essential living costs or experiencing serious financial distress, please don’t spend your energy worrying about keeping up with a Challenge.
I’ll signpost appropriate free UK financial-support resources instead.
There is no shame in needing that kind of help. It’s simply a different kind of help from what I’m providing here.

I’m Laura Powner.
I’m a Chartered Accountant, but The Money Shift Challenge isn’t really an accounting challenge.
Thank God.
I’ve spent 26 years working with money and business as an accountant, Finance Director, Managing Director, founder, business owner, mentor and teacher.
And eventually I became fascinated by something the spreadsheets couldn’t explain.
Why can intelligent people know exactly what they should do with money... and still not do it?
Why does earning more sometimes change absolutely nothing?
Why can one person happily spend money while another feels guilty buying anything for themselves?
Why do we repeat financial patterns even when we can see they’re not helping us?
That’s the territory we’re exploring.
The numbers + the human being behind the numbers.
And I’ve spent years exploring that human side of money too. Alongside being a Chartered Accountant, I’m a qualified teacher of people aged 16 and over, and I’ve trained in neuroscience-informed approaches, mindset and behavioural change, Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) and energy-based practices. So when we explore your relationship with money, we’re bringing together the practical financial knowledge with an understanding of the beliefs, experiences and behaviours that influence what you actually do with it.
Because when you understand both, you can start changing both.
By registering I understand I'll receive emails relating to The Money Shift Challenge.
You don’t have to change everything this week.
You just have to start.
